Bitter Moon ( 2013 )
“Bitter Moon” tells the story of two friends who, after years of separation, have now reunited. One has been a man of the law, while the other has crossed the line of legality. Now, friendship, law, and lawlessness intertwine.
“Bitter Moon” is an intriguing film that delves into the fate of two friends whose choices have now brought them face to face after years. The film’s music combines an Iranian theme with a modern backdrop. The santur, representing Iranian culture, blends with a slightly classical touch from the zither in the background.
During certain scenes in the film, the music alone wasn’t sufficient to meet its needs. Therefore, I decided to add a vocal piece to those parts. “Mani Rooz,” a beautiful song, was written by Mani and I handled the melody and arrangement. Interestingly, I had prepared a demo for this piece, intending for Afshin to hear how the music had turned out and consider a professional vocalist who could perform it.
Due to time constraints, the work took longer than expected, and there wasn’t an opportunity for a live singer. Surprisingly, the television broadcast used the same demo I had created. It’s actually quite fascinating that few people realized it was a demo recording.
