Worker Bee (2020)
Story of the Film “Worker Bee”
Years ago, Biuk lost his wife due to a doctor’s mistake and was killed in a fight. Now, his daughter seeks revenge on his killer, and the only witness to the incident is the killer’s fiancée.
The film “Worker Bee,” directed by Afshin Sadeghi, was made in 2019. This film is a product of Iran and falls within the drama and crime genres.
“Worker Bee,” is one of the remarkable films in Iranian cinema, and Afshin Sadeghi is a director with whom I’ve collaborated on various projects. The film delves into intense themes, particularly centered around murder and retribution. When composing the music for this film, I sought a special element that would symbolize mortality. I discovered the resonant sound of a “Tibetan singing bowl,” as if its strike penetrated deep into the human soul. The music itself needed an experimental quality, avoiding clichés and repetitive spaces. To achieve this, I utilized violins in a fluttering manner, along with the haunting sound of the “surdin.” The violin combination created an otherworldly ambiance unfamiliar to most audiences. The main theme consisted of a very brief melody with minimal notes, intentionally challenging the listener’s perception. Overall, “Worker Bee,” remains one of my rewarding experiences in film music.
